Pakistani imam beaten for reciting the Quran on a train
A video showing a mosque imam reciting the Quran on a train in the Indian state of Gujarat being brutally beaten by three men - two men and a woman - for allegedly being "Pakistani" has been posted on the official pages of the Karar news outlet.
It is understood that the senior imam is the director of a madrasa in Gangapur, Rajasthan. He was on his way to Ankleshwar to collect donations for the institution he heads.
According to the victim's family, as soon as the imam boarded the train, a group of people gathered around him and began shouting insults against Muslims.
The situation escalated when one of the female passengers called him a "Pakistani." When the train attendant called the imam to the door, two men and a woman punched him in the face, causing bodily harm.
The increasing number of hate crimes against Muslims in India has also deeply concerned the international community. Despite this, no action has yet been taken by law enforcement agencies in this regard.
