New Syrian flag raised at UN headquarters
Syria's new flag, featuring green, white and black with three red stars, was officially raised at the UN headquarters in New York. Syrian Foreign Minister Assad al-Shaibani attended the ceremony, RIA Novosti reported.
The new flag is a historically significant symbol. It was first used in the early 1930s, when Syria and Lebanon were French territories after World War I.
This flag was adopted in 1946, when Syria gained independence. Since 2011, this flag has been actively used by Syrian opposition forces.
During the ceremony, dozens of protesters gathered in front of the UN headquarters. They also came out with new Syrian flags and joyfully welcomed al-Shaibani's arrival and the flag-raising ceremony, the report said.
Recall that at the end of November 2024, opposition forces in Syria launched large-scale military operations against government troops. On December 8, they entered Damascus. After that, the country's President Bashar Assad resigned and left the country .
On January 29, 2025, the head of the new interim administration, Ahmed al-Shar, became the transitional president of Syria.
