Mohammed has become the most popular boy's name in Britain

Muhammad was the top choice for parents to name their baby boy in England and Wales in 2023, with more than 4,600 children registered with the name, the BBC reports.

According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), it has been in the top 10 names for boys since 2016, but has now overtaken previous favorite Noah.

However, it is noted that there is a degree of regional variation. The name Muhammad is not in the top 10 in three regions of England.

Other spellings of Mohammed, Mohammed and Mohammad, are also in the top 100 names in England and Wales. Various variants of the name Muhammad have been popular in previous years as well.
