Mass attacks against Israelis began in Amsterdam
After the match with the local Ajax in Amsterdam, a series of attacks were made on the fans of the Tel Aviv football club Maccabi, according to the Times of Israel.
Footage has surfaced on social media of Israeli soccer fans attempting to pull down a Palestinian flag hanging from the window of a building in Amsterdam, before a group of people were beaten by a mob on the streets of Amsterdam. The video shows unidentified masked men trying to break into hotels where Israelis are staying.
The Israeli press reported that the fans of Tel Aviv's Maccabi club, which lost 5-0 to the local "Ajax" the day before, were attacked. Media reports said some of the attackers carried Palestinian flags and chanted "Freedom for Palestine."
According to the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at least 10 people were injured.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called on the Amsterdam police to "act decisively and swiftly against the rioters and ensure the well-being of its citizens." He also said two planes would be sent to bring back the Israeli fans.
