Man arrested for burning Quran in Manchester

A 47-year-old man was arrested for burning a Quran in Manchester, UK, on February 2, Arab News reported.

The incident took place near the Glade of Light memorial, which commemorates the victims of the 2017 Manchester Arena bombing. The perpetrator tore up pages of the Quran, burned them one by one, and live-streamed the act on social media.

Witnesses said the man was holding an Israeli flag at the time. Manchester Police confirmed they had arrested him earlier in the day. He was arrested on charges of "racially motivated public disorder".

Assistant Constable Stephanie Parker of Greater Manchester Police said the actions had raised concerns in the community, saying:
"We respect freedom of speech, but when it turns into intimidation and hatred, we take immediate action."

The name of the perpetrator has not been released and he is currently being held in custody.
