Malaysian Prime Minister comments on territorial disputes with China
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has commented on the border disputes in the South China Sea, speaking at the Davos Economic Forum. He stressed the importance of maintaining good neighborly relations with China despite territorial disputes.
"We will resolve conflicts through negotiations and continue economic cooperation," said Anwar Ibrahim.
He also noted that he would pay special attention to developing relations with China while maintaining strong ties with the United States.
Border disputes with Malaysia, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Brunei continue due to Beijing's claims in the South China Sea.
For your information, the territorial disputes between Malaysia and China are mainly related to the issue of ownership of the Paracel Islands (Xisha) and the Spratly Archipelago (Nansha) in the South China Sea. These territories are also claimed by Brunei, Vietnam and the Philippines. The main reason for the disputes is the desire to establish control over the area near the Strait of Malacca, because 60% of China's trade and 80% of its hydrocarbon imports pass through here.
