Last French soldier leaves Chad

Control of Adji Kossey military base transferred to African country's army

France has handed over the Adji Kossey base in the Chadian capital of N'Djamena to the Chadian army, completely ending its military presence in the country.

A statement from the Chadian General Staff said:
"The capture of the Adji Kossey base completely ended the presence of French troops in Chad. This decision was taken in accordance with the will of President Mohamed Idriss Deby Itno and the demands of the Chadian people."

On November 28, 2024, the Chadian government decided to terminate defense and security cooperation with France.

Following this, French military aircraft and units began to leave the country.

December 26, 2024 – The Faya military base was handed over to the Chadian army.

January 12, 2025 - The Abeche military base also passed under Chadian control.

January 30, 2025 - The Adji Kocsey base also left French control.

The decision comes as France's influence in West and Central Africa has declined in recent years, as African leaders seek to strengthen their countries' military and political independence.
