Judge blocks Trump's immigration order

A federal judge in Seattle has blocked President Donald Trump's executive order restricting the granting of U.S. citizenship to children of immigrants born in America.

The executive order, signed by President Donald Trump on his first day in office on January 20, proposed changing the constitutional provision that automatically grants citizenship to any child born on U.S. soil.

The administration believes that birthright citizenship should not apply to children of foreigners who are in the country illegally or temporarily. However, a judge has temporarily suspended the order to prevent it from taking legal effect.

Recall that 22 US states filed a lawsuit against Trump's executive order, which he signed upon taking office, to revoke the granting of American citizenship to children whose parents are illegal immigrants. The California attorney general called Trump's order contrary to the constitution and American values.
