Italy's foreign minister has criticized an Israeli sniper who shot and killed two women in a church in Gaza.

Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani criticized Israeli forces for killing two women in a church in the Gaza Strip, Al Jazeera reports.

“[An Israeli] sniper shot two women in a church. " It has nothing to do with the fight against Hamas, because the terrorists certainly did not hide in Christian churches," said Tajani.

He made the comments after the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem said a woman and her daughter were "murdered in cold blood " on the grounds of the Holy Family Church in the Strip. He added that an Israeli airstrike injured seven people and damaged a monastery that sheltered 54 disabled people.

This incident was strongly criticized by Pope Francis, who suggested that Israel was using "terrorist" tactics in the Gaza Strip.
