Israeli settlers setting up tents in the Lebanese border areas

Israeli settlers set up tents in Lebanon's border areas

Israeli settlers invaded southern Lebanon on Wednesday and began setting up tents in the town of Maroun al-Ras. They posted photos and selfies of themselves in the Lebanese territory on social media, sparking outrage from locals and the international community, Arab News reported.

The Israeli army described the actions as a "serious incident" and promised to launch an investigation. The group of settlers hoisted flags with the Star of David on top of their tents and displayed images of the sycamore tree, a symbol of Lebanon.

A settler posted a video on social media with his son, claiming that Lebanese territories belong to Israel. The video caused a strong outcry in Lebanese society.

Israeli settlers have invaded areas mandated by UN peacekeeping forces south of the Litani River, in a flagrant violation of international agreements. The UNIFIL mission has called these actions "dangerous and unacceptable."

Israeli forces are regularly inflicting damage not only on the border areas, but also on towns and villages in southern Lebanon. According to Ali Awada, the mayor of Naqoura, 70 percent of the town's homes have been destroyed. Israeli soldiers are bulldozing homes and infrastructure, preventing local residents from returning to their properties.

"It seems that Israel has chosen to take revenge against the city's residents through these actions," said Ali Awada, who also expressed his surprise at the failure of UN peacekeepers to prevent such attacks on Israeli civilian infrastructure.

Homes in the Tyre region, including the towns of Tair Harf, Al-Jabin and Shihin, are also being destroyed. Local residents said they heard multiple explosions and expressed concern that the situation could worsen.

The international community is expected to strongly condemn these actions as violations of human rights and international law. However, so far, no serious measures have been taken against such Israeli actions.

These incidents are further exacerbating tensions in Lebanese-Israeli relations and increasing the risk of new conflicts in the region.
