Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant was fired
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has fired Defense Minister Yoav Galant "due to the loss of trust between them during the war." Minister of Foreign Affairs Israel Kats was appointed in his place. Hamas reacted to this decision.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu fired Defense Minister Yoav Galant. Netanyahu gave the reason for this decision that "there was a lack of trust between the prime minister and the defense minister during the war."
"My highest duty as the Prime Minister of Israel is to ensure the country's security and achieve a decisive victory. In times of war, absolute trust between the prime minister and the defense minister is more important than ever. "In the early months of the campaign, we had this trust and achieved a lot, but unfortunately, in the last months, this trust between me and the Minister of Defense has been undermined," Netanyahu said in a statement.
Israel Kats, who is currently working as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, was appointed in his place. Gideon Saar became the new head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Hundreds of people who protested the dismissal of Yoav Galant took to the streets of Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. They demand the resignation of Netanyahu and the release of Israeli prisoners held by Hamas.
The official representative of Hamas, Sami Abu Zuhri, also expressed his reaction to this decision. "Defence Minister Yoav Galant, who boasted that he will destroy Hamas, was fired himself, and we tell them: 'Galant is gone, but Hamas remains and will remain, God willing,'" he said.
