Israeli army begins to occupy Syrian territory - "Al-Jazeera"
Qatar's Al-Jazeera TV channel reported that Israeli tanks and armored vehicles have crossed the Syrian border and that engineering work is underway to establish new border lines. Bashar Assad's government, preferring to remain silent, strongly resists the leakage of information about it.
Qatar's "Al-Jazeera" TV channel published footage showing the advance of Israeli troops in the south of Syria, in particular, in the border villages of Kovdana and Khadr, located in the Qunaitra province.
The footage is the first to confirm speculation that Israel will create a buffer zone on the Syrian side of the Golan Heights, which has been under discussion for the past two months. At the same time, Bashar Assad's government, as before, prefers to keep silent about the actions of the Israeli military.
According to the TV channel, Israeli tanks and armored vehicles have crossed the Syrian border and are located in the area between the villages of Tina and Khadr, where engineering work is underway to create a new border line. Local residents told reporters how the Israeli military was destroying their farmland to facilitate the movement of equipment.
"Nearly 300 hectares of our land near the border were destroyed and occupied. The Israeli military is also driving away the shepherds, leaving their cattle without pasture. As a result, many families are deprived of their only source of income," said one of the representatives of the local population named Muhammad to the TV channel.
Bashar al-Assad's ruling Baath Party has taken strict measures to prevent leaks of information about what is happening on the border, with rare statements from representatives. Local residents say anyone who tries to approach the border areas risks arrest.
In addition to military activities, Israel is reportedly actively supporting the growing number of Jewish settlers in the occupied Golan Heights. A resident, who identified himself as Abu Isa, told Al Jazeera that the number of squatters has increased significantly in settlements such as Majdal Shams, Katzrin, Ain Ziwan and Ramat Magshimim.
Many experts and residents of the region express concern that Israel's actions are aimed at further annexation of the territories and their complete subjugation. The creation of the buffer zone is said to be the next step in strengthening Israel's control over this part of Syria.
As Israel continues to develop its infrastructure in the occupied territories, the Syrian government is doing almost nothing to prevent these actions. The lack of response from Damascus is fueling discontent among local residents, who feel abandoned.
Israel's activities in the Golan Heights are raising tensions in the region, and the international community is increasingly asking to prevent further escalation of the conflict.
