Israel launched the bloodiest attack on Syria in recent months
Israel launched a deadly attack on the Syrian city of Palmyra. As a result of the explosion, 36 people died and 50 were injured, Arab News reports.
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, 61 people were killed in the attack. According to the organization, 33 of them are connected to armed organizations, including 4 to Hezbollah, 22 are not Syrian citizens, and 2 bodies have not been identified.
"The enemy launched an airstrike from Israel al-Tanf and hit a number of buildings in Palmyra. 36 people were killed, 50 people were injured, a lot of material damage was caused," the Syrian Ministry of Defense said.
It was the deadliest attack on Syria since the start of Israel's invasion of Lebanon.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry condemned "the brutal attack on Palmyra, which reflects the ongoing crimes of Zionism against the countries and peoples of the region."
The ancient city of Palmyra is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. After the latest Israeli strikes, the director general of Syria's Antiquities and Museums Department said it was necessary to conduct an investigation at the site of the strikes to determine if any historical monuments were damaged.
