Israel dropped more than 85,000 tons of explosives in the Gaza Strip
Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli army has dropped more than 85,000 tons of explosives on the Gaza Strip. As a result, agricultural land has become unusable, the land has been contaminated with toxic chemicals, and has been unfit for cultivation for decades.
On the occasion of the Day for the Prevention of the Use of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict, which is celebrated by the UN General Assembly on November 6, the Palestinian Authority for Environmental Quality has provided information about the environmental disaster in the Gaza Strip, which has been bombarded by Israel for more than a year.
It is noted that since October 7, 2023, Israel has dropped more than 85,000 tons of explosives in the Gaza Strip, causing the death of more than 40,000 Palestinians and destroying agricultural land.
The bombs dropped on the Gaza Strip are "much more powerful than those used during World War II."
"As a result of Israel's incessant bombardment, large agricultural areas have become unusable, the land has been contaminated with toxic chemicals, and has been unfit for cultivation for decades," the report said.
In addition, attention was drawn to the fact that Israel used phosphorus bombs in the Gaza Strip, which pose a danger to human life and all living organisms. Chemicals released by the bomb blast into the groundwater will have a negative impact on life in the Gaza Strip for decades, the report says.
The Palestinian Authority called on the UN and the international community to take urgent action to stop Israeli attacks, prevent the use of the environment for military purposes and ensure compliance with international law.
