Israel bans Gaza ceasefire celebrations
The Israeli Prison Service has decided to prevent Palestinian prisoners being released from prison following a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip from celebrating their release. Prison Service Commissioner Kobi Jacobi reportedly took special measures to control public celebrations in prisons. Restrictions were also imposed on the use of Red Cross buses.
According to reports, 95 Palestinian women and children are among those expected to be released from Israeli prisons. The last prisoner exchange agreement was in November 2023, in which 240 Palestinians were released.
Experts say the detention of children and civilians violates international law, and that Israel's military legal system in the West Bank poses serious human rights concerns.
For the Palestinians, the release of prisoners remains one of the ongoing demands in negotiations with Israel.
