Israel arrested 30 people on charges of spying for Iran

The arrest of about 30 people by the Israeli security service (Shin Bet) on suspicion of espionage for Iran caused a great uproar in the country. Israeli intelligence has called the spying situation on such a scale "one of the most serious threats in history."

According to the Shin Bet, the suspects include those involved in the assassination of a nuclear scientist and former military officials.

Some of them were engaged in gathering information about Israeli military bases and air defense systems.

At least two of the suspects belong to ultra-Orthodox Jewish communities.

Shalom Ben Hanan, a senior Shin Bet official, said the incident was an indication of Tehran's serious efforts to strengthen its intelligence activities inside Israel.

The intelligence and espionage war between Israel and Iran has been intensifying in recent years. At the beginning of 2024, it was reported that four agents of Israel's Mossad service were executed in Iran. Also, in Israel itself, there are many cases of arrests against suspects who worked for Iran.

Suspicion of representatives of the ultra-Orthodox community of espionage is increasing the dissatisfaction with the government's policy even among religious communities in the country.

Criticism of the government led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is growing, especially on security issues.
