In Russia, migrants may be prohibited from living near schools and kindergartens

The Russian State Duma is developing a draft law aimed at restricting the residence of labor migrants near schools and kindergartens. The head of the Liberal Democratic Party, Leonid Slutsky, said that the registration of migrants in the territory of educational institutions may also be prohibited.

According to Slutsky, the main goal of the bill is to create a safe environment for children. According to him, living of labor migrants near educational institutions can threaten children's safety.

"It is very important to prohibit labor migrants from living less than 200 meters from schools and kindergartens. It is also necessary to prohibit the registration of migrants in the buildings of schools and children's institutions," said Slutsky.

The current legislation does not impose any restrictions on the choice of the place of residence of labor migrants. Slutsky said that many foreigners living in areas close to schools and kindergartens could pose a "potential risk" to children's safety. Cases of temporary residence in the buildings of educational institutions were also recorded.

The draft law proposes banning the residence of migrants in the building and territory of educational organizations. Although in some cases such buildings are rented out, their main purpose remains unchanged.

If the law is adopted, there may be a number of restrictions on the choice of new places of residence for labor migrants. This can be especially difficult for migrants who are used to living close to their workplaces. At the same time, it should be noted that the law is being introduced to ensure the safety of children and maintain social order.

The adoption of the law could be another important change in the migrant policy in Russia. This, in turn, is expected to affect social relations related to labor migrants in the country.
