In New Delhi, visibility has decreased to 150 meters due to air pollution

In the capital of India, New Delhi, the air quality exceeded the upper limit of the "severe" category and reached the worst level. Air pollution has affected flights and trains, and canceled face-to-face classes in lower grades. The government started implementing a number of measures.

India's NDTV channel reported that according to the Air Quality Index (AQI), the level of air pollution in New Delhi, which threatens the health of millions of people, was recorded at 481 in the latest measurements and was raised to the "very severe" category.

According to reports, as a result of toxic smoke and fog, the visibility in the city was reduced to 150 meters, and air and train traffic in the region was negatively affected.

The government has since announced tougher measures to reduce the effects of air pollution.

As part of these measures, officials announced that all trucks and similar vehicles that do not use clean energy fuels have been banned from entering New Delhi, and children, the elderly, and people with respiratory, cardiovascular or other chronic conditions have been advised to stay indoors.

The government also announced the suspension of face-to-face education in schools for all students except grades 10 and 12.

India is implementing a Phased Action Plan (GRAP) for air pollution, which is categorized as 'very low', 'low', 'severe' and 'extremely severe'. As the air quality rises to the 'severe' category, India's GRAP bans activities involving the use of coal, wood and diesel generators except in emergencies.

New Delhi residents were also urged to use public transport to move around the city and reduce vehicle emissions as much as possible. Although the sale of pyrotechnics and sparklers is prohibited every year during the holidays, their delivery from other cities has not been accepted.
