Georgia's parliament is considering a bill that would ban the registration of same-sex marriages, transgender or non-traditional adoptions, medical sex reassignment procedures, and "LGBT propaganda." The adoption of the document is expected in the fall.
The Georgian parliament is considering a package of draft laws "On family values and protection of minors". The package consists of the main bill and 18 amendments to existing laws, including labor and education laws.
"Georgia Online" portal reported about this, referring to Shalva Papuashvili, speaker of the legislative body. According to the portal, the initiative includes the following prohibitions:
Registration of same-sex marriages.
Transgender or non-traditional adoption.
Indicating gender other than biological gender in documents. Medical sex reassignment procedures.
"LGBT propaganda" in educational institutions, advertising and mass media.
Public gatherings and demonstrations promoting transgender identity, same-sex relationships, or consanguineous marriage.
Prohibition of regulations by public or private institutions "aimed at equalizing the biological sex of a person", including the use of the terms "father" and "mother".
The set of draft laws will be considered in the first reading in the spring session of the parliament and will be adopted in the fall. Papuashvili called everyone to participate in the discussion of this initiative.
