First Friday prayer held in Gaza after ceasefire

On January 24, 2025, hundreds of Palestinians gathered for Friday prayers amid the rubble of Gaza City. The historic event took place in the ruins of the Umari Mosque in eastern Gaza. The mosque was destroyed during the Israeli military operation that began on October 7, 2023 and lasted for more than 15 months.
Friday prayers were a symbolic moment of unity that brought together the diverse population of Gaza, marking the first time residents prayed in harmony since the ceasefire and the establishment of a truce.
After Friday prayers, the funerals of two senior Hamas figures, Ruhi Mushtahi and Sammy Auda, were held. Their bodies were found under rubble after the ceasefire agreement took effect. Hundreds of Palestinians, including armed men, attended the funeral.
These events took place against a backdrop of the aftermath of the devastating military operations in Gaza and the memories of the victims. Following the ceasefire, relative peace has been established in the region, and the people's hope for unity and coexistence is growing.
