Far-right ministers leave Israeli government
Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir announced that he and his Jewish Power party will resign from the cabinet. According to the statement, all ministers from the party, including Yitzhak Wasserlauf (Minister of Najaf Affairs and Galilee Development) and Amichai Eliyahu (Minister of Heritage Affairs), have resigned.
Ben-Gwir announced his resignation following the implementation of the Gaza ceasefire agreement. He had previously warned that he would resign from the government if the agreement was implemented.
Ben-Gvir said that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu offered to build new settlements in the occupied West Bank and fire Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi in an attempt to persuade him to stay in the coalition. The prime minister's press office called the promises made to Ben-Gvir "completely false."
Ben-Gvir's Jewish Power party holds 6 seats in the Knesset, and his resignation could seriously alter the coalition balance in Netanyahu's government.
