Experts: The universality of the Declaration of Human Rights has failed in Gaza

December 10 - World Human Rights Day The fact that this year's annual Human Rights Day is taking place against the backdrop of the Palestinian crisis in the Gaza Strip casts doubt on the importance of the declaration.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted by the UN General Assembly in 1948 and is considered the main international document aimed at protecting human rights. However, the events in Gaza show that its "universality" is under threat.

According to international lawyer Lena Al-Malak, the declaration is being completely violated in the Gaza Strip of Palestine.
"The situation in Gaza shows that all the articles of the declaration have been violated. It is a violation of rights such as education, freedom from torture, freedom from arbitrary arrest," he said.

According to Al-Malak, the fact that the declaration is not applied equally to everyone diminishes its importance.

American lawyer Lara Elborno assessed the issuance of a warrant by the International Criminal Court against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the country's Defense Minister Yoav Gallant as a "turning point". He considers this decision to be a big step for international legal institutions:
"In the past, such bodies only prosecuted leaders of the Global South or enemies of the West. It is time to end Israel's impunity."

According to experts, the current state of the declaration raises serious doubts about its universality. Today emphasizes the need to reconsider the equal rights of every person and to take decisive measures to ensure human rights.
