Experts are concerned that 3-4 Islamic monuments are being destroyed in Russia every day
Every day, 3-4 cultural heritage sites, including architectural monuments of Islamic civilization, are being destroyed in Russia. This issue was raised at the "Russia - Islamic World" conference organized within the framework of the KazanForum.
According to Alexandra Soboleva, head of regional cooperation at DOM.RF, cultural heritage is at risk of disappearing.
"Although historical architectural monuments in Russia are registered as objects under state protection, many of them remain neglected. Among them are mosques, mausoleums, madrasahs and other buildings related to Islamic history," says Alexandra Soboleva
According to experts, this heritage accounts for a large part of the 3-4 objects that disappear every day. The number of cultural heritage sites in Russia is large, but the financial, legal and technical resources allocated to their preservation are insufficient. This leads to the fact that the sites are scattered, damaged or destroyed under the pretext of reconstruction.
Evren Rutbil, director of the Central Asia International Research Institute, who visited from Uzbekistan as part of the forum, said that most of the objects belonging to Islamic culture date back to the 8th century.
"These are thousands of ancient cities, mosques, mausoleums, and a huge intangible heritage. They must be preserved not only at the local or state level, but also through international cooperation," Rutbil said.
The loss of 3-4 monuments every day means the loss not only of architecture, but of all history, culture, and memory, it was said at the international forum.
