Egyptian opposition leader in Syria threatens Sisi

New threats against Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi were made on January 13. Syrian opposition activist Ahmed al-Mansour used the hashtag "Your turn, dictator" in his social media posts to warn al-Sisi that he could repeat the fate of Bashar al-Assad.

According to Arabi21, al-Mansour's father, uncle, and several relatives were arrested in Egypt. This incident further fueled his opposition, prompting calls for al-Sisi to immediately resign, distance the army from politics, and release political prisoners.

Egypt's Interior Ministry held an emergency meeting to discuss measures against al-Mansour's campaign. The threat to national security was raised to the highest level.

Al-Mansour also criticizes the dire state of the Egyptian economy, which is suffering from inflation, currency shortages, and mounting foreign debt. Anti-presidential rhetoric and harsh criticism of the government are on the rise on social media.
