Egypt also punishes family members of activists abroad
The Egyptian diaspora is protesting Cairo's support for the Zionists by blocking diplomatic missions around the world.
It all started with Anas Habib, an Egyptian activist who chained himself to the gates of the embassy in The Hague. His actions sparked a similar wave of protests.
Nour Hossam tried to repeat his action in Istanbul, but was dragged into the consulate and beaten. Brothers Ali and Yassin, who were filming the protest in New York, were injured when they tried to chain themselves to the doors of the UN mission.
Earlier, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdulati instructed diplomats to "drag disgruntled compatriots abroad into consulates and make their lives "a living hell."
The families of activists are also suffering. There are reports that the Egyptian government has arrested relatives of protesters. Similarly, social media has leaked reports that five family members of an Egyptian activist have been arrested.
Experts estimate that there may be between 20,000 and 40,000 political prisoners in Egypt, and more than 800 people have gone missing since 2023.
