Criminal case opened against Netanyahu's wife
Sara Netanyahu, the wife of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, is suspected of interfering in the trial and organizing a campaign against key witnesses. The Israeli public prosecutor's office officially announced the opening of this criminal investigation on February 2.
The investigation began after a journalistic investigation by Channel 12, which revealed that Sara Netanyahu asked former prime minister's aide Hanni Bleiweiss to organize an online campaign against Hadas Klein, who was supposed to testify in the Benjamin Netanyahu case.
The prosecutor's office took the matter seriously and involved the police and cybercrime department in the investigation. Israeli Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara ordered the investigation to begin on December 26.
Sara Netanyahu has previously been tried and convicted of misappropriation of public funds in 2019 and fined $15,000.
Also in November 2024, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Benjamin Netanyahu, accusing him of war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Gaza Strip. On January 27, 2025, he appeared in the Tel Aviv District Court to attend a hearing on charges of bribery, fraud, and breach of public trust.
