Brazil launches investigation into Israeli soldier
A Brazilian court has ordered police to investigate an Israeli soldier on leave in the country. According to a complaint filed by the Indian Rajab Foundation (HRF), the soldier is suspected of participating in home demolition operations in the Gaza Strip.
HRF lawyer Mayra Pinheiro said there was video and photos that confirmed the suspect's criminal actions. "This man was actively involved in destroying homes," she said.
The court emphasized the need to conduct prompt investigative actions based on the country's criminal procedural laws, in accordance with the provisions of the Rome Statute. This decision caused serious debate in the international community.
HRF leader Diab Abu Jahja called the event a "historic moment."
"This is a strong example of holding war criminals who violate international law accountable," he said.
During the trial, it will be further clarified what measures the Israeli soldier was subjected to in relation to the specific charges.
