Bangladesh's interim government will continue to support Rohingya refugees, the new prime minister, Nobel Peace Prize laureate Muhammad Yunus, said on August 18.

He also emphasized the need for international cooperation to solve the problem of refugees forced to leave Myanmar due to the threat of religious persecution.

"Our government will continue to support more than one million Rohingya refugees from Bangladesh. We need to continue the efforts of the international community to conduct humanitarian operations for the Rohingya and eventually return them to their homeland Myanmar in safety, dignity and respect for all rights," Yunus said at a meeting with diplomats in Dhaka.

For information, currently more than 1 million Rohingya refugees have taken refuge in Bangladesh. Most of them fled the military conflicts in Myanmar in 2017.
