Armed clash breaks out on Pakistan-India border
The Pakistani army fired on Indian border posts along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir overnight, NDTV news agency reported.
In turn, Indian soldiers retaliated. No casualties have been reported so far.
Pakistan's Defense Minister Muhammad Asif, reacting to the events, noted that "a clash between two nuclear-armed states is always a cause for concern. If something goes wrong, this confrontation can lead to tragic consequences."
The minister also said that the Pakistani military is ready to give a "weighted and measured" response to any potential attack.
The armed conflict was sparked by a deadly terrorist attack in the Jammu and Kashmir region a few days ago, which left at least 27 people dead and 12 others injured.
The Indian government responded by taking a number of tough measures, including expelling Pakistani diplomats and suspending a bilateral agreement on sharing the waters of the Indus River .
