Arab countries ready to pay billions to persuade Trump to abandon Gaza plan
Arab states are trying to prepare their own plan for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip as an alternative to US President Trump's plan to resettle the population of the Gaza Strip in other countries. Egyptian President al-Sisi will travel to Saudi Arabia on February 20 to discuss an Arab alternative that could provide up to $20 billion from the region for reconstruction, Reuters reported, citing sources in Egypt.
The Arab proposal includes the formation of a national Palestinian committee to govern the Gaza Strip without Hamas and international participation in its reconstruction without displacing Palestinians abroad.
It is noted that the $20 billion contribution to the fund from Arab and Gulf states "could be a good incentive for Trump to accept the plan."
Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, the UAE and Qatar plan to review and discuss the Arab plan in Riyadh before it is presented at an Arab summit scheduled for March 4 in Cairo.
