Afghanistan bans officials from holding two positions at the same time

The Emir of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, Haibatullah Akhundzada, has issued a new decree prohibiting state officials from holding multiple positions at the same time, local official sources reported.

The decree applies to civil servants at all levels, prohibiting officials from holding two or more positions at the same time. Those who violate the rule must choose in favor of one of the positions they currently hold.

Although this decree was first announced on June 20, 2023, its importance was once again noted today. The goal is to increase efficiency in public administration and eliminate conflicts of interest.

This restriction is being noted as another important step towards strengthening the governance system and ensuring stability in Afghanistan.
