Afghan government releases Canadian veteran from prison
The Afghan government has released Canadian Armed Forces veteran David Lavery after 2.5 months of detention, Khaama Press news agency reported.
Lavery was reportedly released through Qatari mediation. However, the circumstances of his arrest are still unclear. It is believed to have taken place at Kabul airport.
David Lavery is said to have visited Afghanistan frequently on "humanitarian missions." According to some reports, he helped about a hundred Afghan citizens leave the country after the Taliban came to power. Most of them were people associated with the previous government.
It was also reported that the governments of Afghanistan and Iran discussed issues of developing mutual relations.
