A young Muslim woman has been appointed as the Minister of Culture , Arts and Heritage in Kenya . Ummi Bashir holds an MA in Armed Conflict and Peace and is currently writing her PhD in International Relations. The fact that she is a mother of many children does not hinder her success at the national and international level.

Bashir is the only Muslim woman to hold a ministerial position in President William Ruto's government. Bashir is a lawyer and was admitted to the bar in 2012. Interestingly, Bashir is a mother of many children and has successfully combined family life with the demands of high government positions . He himself grew up in a family with nine children. During his career, the Muslim lawyer worked in several UN agencies, including dealing with refugee issues.

According to the 2022 census, 18.6 % of Kenyans are Catholics, 36.6 % are Protestants, 24.5 % are Evangelicals , 8.7 % are Aborigines, 7.1 % are Muslims, 1, 1 percent are atheists.
