A man was shot and killed by an unknown person on his way to a mosque in the US state of Philadelphia. The killer did not stop shooting even after the victim fell to the ground and then fled in his car. An investigation is currently underway by the police.

A man was shot and killed outside a North Philadelphia mosque in the US state of Philadelphia on Tuesday afternoon, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported, citing police.

Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said at a press conference that surveillance footage showed the victim, a 43-year-old man, walking with another man toward the Al-Aqsa Islamic Community, when a gunman ran up behind them and began shooting at the victim.

The killer continued to shoot at the victim even after he fell to the ground. After that, he fled the parking lot in a car.

A police spokesman said officers arrived at the scene and found the victim lying lifeless in the parking lot with gunshot wounds to the head, chest and body. It was reported that he died in the hospital.

So far, the suspect has not been caught, and the reason for the murder is unknown. The person with the victim was not injured, Small said. The victim's name has not been released.

Police are interviewing witnesses and reviewing other surveillance footage.
