In Detroit, USA, a man approached a 7-year-old girl of Yemeni origin and pulled a knife from her throat. The girl escaped from the hand of the criminal and managed to run home. Police have opened a case of attempted murder, and the public is demanding a hate crime investigation. The suspect was captured.

The administration of the American city of Detroit demands an additional investigation into the stabbing of a 7-year-old girl of Yemeni origin as a hate crime, TRT wrote.

Last Tuesday, a 7-year-old girl was stabbed in the throat while walking with her 73-year-old grandfather at Ryan Park in Detroit. According to reports, a man approached Saida Mashrah with a knife, lifted her head and cut her throat. The little girl kicked the criminal, managed to escape and ran home to her mother.

After the attack, the suspect, Gary Lansky of Detroit, was arrested later that day and charged with first degree murder and felony assault.

Police believe Lansky may have suffered from mental illness, as did his wife. Prosecutors' spokeswoman Maria Miller reiterated Friday that there is currently "no evidence of a hate crime in this case," without providing further details.

But the girl's mother, Amira Sharkhan, 32, of Detroit, said it may have been a targeted attack because of the girl's background.

"Why did my daughter choose ? Why did it suddenly appear? Why? American press quotes Sharkhan. "I don't want my daughter's case to be pushed aside."

The city of Detroit and other residents of the state of Michigan are also calling for further investigation.

"We call on the Detroit Police Department and the Wayne County District Attorney's Office to conduct a full investigation into this case to determine whether hate motivated the attack," said David Walid, Michigan director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).

Another well-known person who made a similar call, Rashida Tlaib, a representative of the US Congress from Detroit, stated on the social network that the attack on the girl should be investigated as a hate crime and that the continued dehumanization (discrediting) of Arabs and Muslims is the reason for the increase in hate crimes against them across the country .
