6 killed in stampede at temple in India

At least six people have been killed and more than 50 pilgrims injured in a stampede during a religious ceremony near the Shirgaon temple in the Indian state of Goa, NDTV reported.

According to witnesses, panic broke out among the crowd and people rushed to leave the ceremony. It is said that the organizers' laxity in maintaining order led to the disaster.

Emergency services and police were immediately called to the scene. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals. Authorities have launched an investigation.

It should be recalled that on January 30 of this year, more than 40 people were killed and 60 injured in a similar stampede at the Kumbha Mela festival in Uttar Pradesh .
