The government of Saudi Arabia arrested 21,049 people for violating the rules of living, working and border security in one week , Arab News reported with reference to the Saudi Press Agency .

According to the official report, a total of 13,209 people were arrested for violating the legislation on residency, 5,177 people for trying to cross the border illegally, and another 2,663 people for violating the labor legislation .

The report found that of the 1,540 people arrested for trying to enter the kingdom illegally, 56 percent were Ethiopians, 43 percent were Yemenis, and 1 percent were of other nationalities.

Another 42 citizens were arrested for trying to cross the border to neighboring countries, and five were arrested for transporting and hiding criminals.

Saudi Arabia's Interior Ministry said anyone who helped illegally enter the kingdom, including providing transportation and shelter, could face up to 15 years in prison, a fine of 1 million riyals ($260,000), and confiscation of vehicles and property.
