180,000 livestock died in Mongolia due to lack of fodder in winter
In Mongolia , 180,000 livestock died due to lack of food . Xinhua reported this with reference to Sainbuyangiin Amarsaikhan, deputy prime minister of Mongolia and head of the state emergency commission.
According to him, the government continues to provide all Mongolian nomadic herders with a 50 percent discount on the purchase of animal feed from the state reserves in order to overcome the harsh winter with minimal damage.
"A total of 9 million 182.4 thousand tons of animal feed was delivered to 21 regions of Mongolia and three remote areas of Ulaanbaatar," said the deputy prime minister.
According to the Mongolian Institute of Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring, about 90% of the country's territory is covered with snow.
It should be noted that Mongolia has a large area where pasture cattle breeding is developed. However, Mongolia's livestock industry faces extreme weather conditions in winter. Livestock find it difficult to forage under the snow and ice cover. As a result, most of them die of hunger and cold.
For information, at the end of 2023, Mongolia exported a record 80,400 tons of meat. China, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, UAE and Iran are the main consumers. According to the National Statistical Committee of Mongolia, by the end of 2023, there will be 64.7 million livestock in the country.
