Kazakhstan may exploit Afghanistan's mineral resources
According to Serik Jumankarin, Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan and Minister of National Economy, a group of geologists from Kazakhstan has been sent to Afghanistan. They will study areas where solid minerals may be present.
According to the minister, major companies such as ERG Exploration, Kazakhmys Barlau, and Kazatomprom have expressed interest in exploring and investing in these promising deposits.
The Afghan side, in turn, expressed its readiness to provide the necessary information on proven reserves of natural resources of interest to the Kazakhs.
Also, during the minister's official visit to Kabul, contracts worth a total of more than 140 million US dollars were signed between the two countries.
The parties reached an agreement to increase mutual trade to $3 billion in the near future, as well as to create a favorable environment for investment and entrepreneurship.
"Afghanistan can become an important logistics hub between Central Asia and South Asia. Kazakhstan is ready to become a reliable supplier of food, modern technologies, mechanical engineering, chemical industry, and IT products," Serik Jumankarin emphasized.
