Uzbekistan to continue supplying electricity to Afghanistan in 2025
The agreement on the supply of electricity between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan has been extended until 2025. This was reported by the press service of the Afghanistan Breshna Shirkat (DABS) company.
This week, a delegation led by Uzbek Energy Minister Jurabek Mirzamahmudov visited Afghanistan and held talks with DABS Director General Abdul Bari Umar. At the end of the meeting, an electricity purchase agreement for 2025 was signed between Uzenergosotish and DABS.
Technical discussions were also held on the construction of a 500 kV power transmission line. This line will run from Surkhan to Puli-Khumri and then to Kabul.
According to the project, the total length of the power transmission network will be 245.6 km. Afghanistan will be supplied with 6 billion kWh of electricity per year. The project cost is estimated at $100.1 million.
According to TOLO News, Afghanistan imports 80 percent of its electricity from Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Iran. The Taliban government has also signed electricity agreements with Turkmenistan and Tajikistan.
We would like to remind you that in December 2022, an agreement was signed between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan on the supply of electricity until 2024.
