Official Baku has confirmed that a Russian missile was responsible for the crash of an Azerbaijan Airlines airliner, Euronews reports.
A government source told the TV channel that the damaged plane was not allowed to land at Russian airports.
According to preliminary investigation, the Aktau tragedy was caused by a Russian missile fired over Grozny. The missile reportedly exploded near the plane mid-flight.
Despite the pilots of the damaged plane requesting permission to make an emergency landing, the Russian side refused and recommended that the plane fly over the Caspian Sea to Kazakhstan.
Russian sources have confirmed that air defense systems were used against Ukrainian drones in Chechnya. Azerbaijani officials are demanding that Russia issue a statement on the incident, issue an official apology, and hold all those responsible accountable.
