Hamas: Mahmoud Abbas's West Bank operation serves Israeli interests

Hamas condemned the operation by Mahmoud Abbas' regime against Palestinian fighters in Jenin, calling it a "major crime."

In a statement, Hamas called for "popular mobilization to protect resistance fighters and oppose such security operations that serve Israel's dreams of ending the resistance in the West Bank."

Clashes continue in the region, with a general strike declared in Jenin. Shops and schools are closed, and businesses have suspended operations.

According to information received from Palestinian, American, and Israeli officials, the United States is supporting the practices of the Mahmoud Abbas regime.

According to officials, Abbas' regime launched the operation out of concern that Islamist groups inspired by the revolution in Syria might attempt to overthrow the Palestinian Authority.

The Jenin camp has long been under the control of Palestinian resistance groups.

The camp is currently under siege and clashes have occurred, with casualties reported among resistance fighters and Palestinian civilians.

According to Palestinian and US officials, Mahmoud Abbas ordered the operation for two main reasons: to show the administration of Donald Trump, who will take office on January 20, that the Palestinian Authority is a reliable partner, and to prevent a repeat of the events in Syria in the West Bank.

Palestinian officials also said that the attacks in Jenin were supported by Egypt and Jordan.
