Disabled people and the elderly suffer from the decrease in the number of immigrants in Russia
As a result of the decrease in the number of migrant workers in Russia, the shortage of specialists caring for the disabled and the elderly has increased. "Migrants often apply for vacancies that local residents - Muscovites or people from other regions of Russia prefer to go around," says Natalya Glazova, head of the Vremya Zaboty patronage center in Moscow.
In Russia, the demand for nursing services has increased sharply in recent years, while the number of those who are ready for work has also sharply decreased, the "Takie Dela" portal reports.
According to the results of the first three quarters of 2024, the demand for caregivers has doubled compared to the same period in 2019, according to the HeadHunter report. In January-September 2019, 793 vacancies for caregivers appeared in open sources, and in the same period of 2024 - 1624 vacancies.
Thus, there are an average of 2.6 resumes for one nurse vacancy in Russia, an optimal ratio of four to one.
"The number of appeals to caregivers from different regions of the country has increased significantly. The problem is acute. In the last few years, it has become extremely difficult to find a caregiver," said Aleksandra Shchetkina, head of the Altsrus Foundation, which supports dementia patients and their families.
Experts believe that the shortage of specialists in the field of caring for patients and the elderly is caused by the decrease in the number of labor migrants in Russia.
" Vacancies that local residents - Muscovites or people from other regions of Russia prefer to pass by - are often sought by migrant workers. ", says Natal Glazova, head of the patronage center "Vremya zaboty" in Moscow. According to her, the demand for caregivers has increased significantly. If until 2022 the "Vremya zaboty" center received 90-100 applications per month, today their number is 140. It is 150.
" Currently, we sometimes do not have suitable candidates. We lack workers," he admitted.
On average, at least a quarter of applicants for nursing vacancies do not have Russian citizenship. Citizens of Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Belarus and Ukraine often seek such work in Russia.
