Experts of the World Bank conduct a study on the decrease of the level of the Caspian Sea. During 18 months, they will gradually study the results of previous studies and regional climate models and prepare hydrological models.

Experts of the World Bank conduct a study on the decrease of the level of the Caspian Sea. On February 7, experts of the World Bank visited the Aktau seaport on the coast of the Caspian Sea in order to get acquainted with the research team.

So , over the next 18 months, HR Wallingford experts will build a digital elevation model and hydrological model of the watersheds , using data from previous studies of the Caspian Sea, the results of regional climate models (RCM).

Using software for simulating future climate change scenarios (TELEMAC), the entire Caspian Sea and Hydrodynamic modeling of Ak tau port is also carried out.

The information and recommendations developed during the research will be used in subsequent projects for the reconstruction and modernization of the infrastructure and equipment of Ak Tau port.

For information , in recent decades, the lowering of the level of the Caspian Sea has become a serious problem affecting the ecology, economy and social aspects of the countries adjacent to this inland water basin. Experts have expressed concern about the long-term consequences of this event, including loss of biodiversity, deterioration of water and air quality, and threats to economic stability.
