At least 36 people died in Pakistan due to strong lightning and hail.

Some of the victims were farmers harvesting wheat and were struck by lightning. Others died under the rubble of their houses that collapsed due to heavy rains. Officials have declared a state of emergency in the southwest of the country, predicting that the rain will continue.

Environmentalist Rafai Alam points to climate change as the main cause of unusually heavy April rains in Pakistan. It also links the phenomenon to the devastating floods of the summer of 2022, when the disaster killed more than 1,700 people and inundated a third of the country.

Afghanistan

Heavy floods occurred in Afghanistan due to seasonal rains. The natural disasters that have occurred have led to the death of farm animals, large amounts of cultivated land and road infrastructure have been destroyed.

"As a result of the recent rains and floods, we lost 50 of our compatriots, and 36 others were injured. In general, as a result of these floods, about 400 livestock died, 706 houses collapsed , another 1,606 houses were damaged," said Janan Saek, spokesperson of the ministry.

According to local authorities, floods were observed in 20 out of 34 regions of the country.

According to the Afghanistan Meteorological Department, heavy rain is expected in most of the 34 provinces of Afghanistan in the coming days. The most precipitation falls on Ghazn a , Kabul, Kandahar and Nangarhar regions.

UAE

Dubai received twice its annual rainfall in a day and a half.

Dubai is almost under water due to the heavy rain that has been falling continuously in the city for more than a day. One of the largest airports in the world, located in Dubai, stopped receiving flights.

Authorities urged residents not to leave their homes.
