The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs demanded that Azerbaijan release an "agent" arrested for carrying out intelligence activities in Eastern Europe, Central Asia and other countries.

The French Foreign Ministry demanded the release of the arrested French intelligence agents from Azerbaijan. This was reported by the French BFM TV channel.

"We confirm that our compatriot was arrested by the authorities of Azerbaijan in early December. We consider this arrest to be arbitrary and demand his immediate release.

Parismatch published an interview with his father, Richard Ryan, revealing that the agent's name is Martin Ryan. In a telephone conversation, Richard's son said: "They used me as a pawn (meaning a chess piece - ed .)," referring to two diplomats who were declared non-grata in Azerbaijan and expelled from the country.

In turn, Baku once again called on the French side to stop interfering in Azerbaijan's internal affairs. Spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Aykhan Hajizoda, commented on the statement of the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs regarding the arrest of a French citizen.

It is noted that on December 4, a French citizen, Martin Ryan, was arrested on suspicion of having committed an act stipulated by Article 276 (espionage) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

"The accusations of the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs about the unjustified arrest of a French citizen are unfounded. This statement is another attempt to distort the reality, to interfere in the internal affairs of Azerbaijan and the legal investigation process," said Hajizada.

According to him, the court issued a decision against the French citizen as a precautionary measure in the form of imprisonment for four months.

We remind you that earlier we reported that a large-scale residency of French intelligence was exposed in Azerbaijan, that they participated in various operations in Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Central Asia.

Later, Azerbaijan declared two employees of the French embassy as "persona non grata" and demanded that they leave the country within 48 hours.
