The mass disappearance of political prisoners in Bangladesh over the past 15 years may be linked to the "Mirror House" secret prison, the New York Times (NYT) reports.

The former prisoners themselves told the publication about the secret prisons. The prison is said to have operated under the control of Sheikh Hasina, the head of the Cabinet of Ministers, who, after coming to power in 2009, launched a large-scale crackdown on political opponents.

Since then, according to human rights organizations, more than 700 opposition members have gone missing.

Earlier, it was known that a warrant was issued for the arrest of Hasina, who is accused of involvement in the massacres during the suppression of student protests against the government, which ended with the change of power in the country. About fifty other people are accused in this case
