The administration of the Japanese city of Nagasaki did not invite Israel to the commemoration of the atomic bomb dropped on the city by the US troops. August 9 marks the 79th anniversary of this date.

The administration of the Japanese city of Nagasaki announced on Wednesday that it will not invite Israel to the annual conference dedicated to the US nuclear bombing of Japan.

Mayor Shiro Suzuki said Israel "will not be invited to the annual peace ceremony on August 9."

In August, the cities of Nagasaki and Hiroshima will mark 79 years since the American atomic bombs were dropped on Japan in 1945.

After Moscow launched a war against Ukraine in February 2022, Japan refused to invite Russia and Belarus to such a conference.

However, the local government in Hiroshima invited Tel Aviv to a similar event. At the same time, they called for an "immediate ceasefire in the Palestinian territories."

The Hiroshima government has come under fire for its double standards, with many activists calling on them to withdraw their offer to Tel Aviv.

There have been many protests in Japan against Israel's war in the Gaza Strip.
