Gadi Ayzenkot

Former Chief of General Staff of the Israeli Army, Lieutenant General Gadi Eisenkot, leader of the Makhane Mamlakhti party, Benny Gantz, and the commander of the division in Gaza, Avi Rosenfeld, left the Netanyahu government. They accused the prime minister of undermining Israel's strategic position and national security and called on him to accept a peace proposal put forward by Joe Biden.

The former Chief of Staff of the Israeli Army, Lieutenant General Gadi Eisenkot, the leader of the "Makhane Mamlakhti" party, Benny Gantz, and the commander of the Gaza division, Avi Rosenfeld, left the Netanyahu government.

In his resignation letter, Eysenkot accused Prime Minister Netanyahu of avoiding making important decisions, saying he was harming Israel's strategic position and national security. "Recently, we saw that the decisions taken by you were not based on the interests of the country," he said.

The leader of the "State Camp" political bloc and the "Makhane Mamlakhti" party, Beni Gants, also announced his resignation from the government.

"This is not an easy decision, but the state of Israel deserves a real victory. "Victory is the return of all hostages, this is true solidarity, victory is a change in the order of national priorities," Gantz said.

He said that "Netanyahu is preventing a real victory" and that is why his bloc is leaving the emergency government.

Gantz called for elections in the fall of 2024 and addressed Defense Minister Yoav Galant: "You are an honest man. Now is the time not only to speak the truth, but also to act on this truth," he said.

Gantz had previously called for a state commission to investigate the failures that led to the October 7 attacks and expressed frustration over the lack of a war plan in Gaza.

He proposed the creation of a temporary civilian administration for Gaza under the auspices of the United States, Europe, Arab states and the Palestinians, while maintaining security control over Israel.

"If you choose the way of bigots and lead the whole nation to the abyss, we will be forced to leave the government," Gantz threatened.

Avi Rosenfeld, the commander of the division of the Israeli army in Gaza, joined the resignations. He said "enough".

Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich commented on these events and said, "Gantz's resignation is the achievement that Hamas leader Yahya Sinvar is seeking."

Former Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon also expressed his opinion.

"The corrupt government has lost its legitimacy with the departure of Gantz and Eysenkot. The government that caused the worst security failure in our history has no mandate or desire to lead us out of this crisis. They cannot decide to end the war and release the hostages. "We will go to the streets to hold elections as soon as possible to save the country from destruction ," he said.

One of the leaders of Hamas, Sami Abu Zahri, reacted: "Hants and Eysenkot wanted to leave the sinking ship before it sank."
