Brazil "permanently" suspends Ambassador Frederico Meyer from Brazil's embassy in Israel. The ambassador's resignation was announced in official publications.

In a decree published in the official gazette on Wednesday, the president moved Ambassador Frederico Meyer to Geneva, where he will serve as Brazil's representative to the Special Conference on Disarmament.

Meyer was summoned to Brazil for consultations in February after ambassador and Brazilian leader Lula da Silva himself became the target of attacks by the Israeli government led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Earlier, Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz declared Lula "persona non grata" after the Brazilian president compared the massacre of Palestinians in Gaza to the genocide of the Jews by Adolf Hitler's Nazi regime.
